Technical Specification Pages & Process
CONSULTING – Consultations and training are available by the hour. This service/training includes referrals specific to your needs, Q&A inquires, and can be accomplished by email, phone, Skype, or text.
PATTERN MAKING: Pattern making is the beginning of the garment development process. The pattern can be developed from a sketch, garment, or sloper in a base size. This base size pattern can then be sewn and checked for fit & aesthetics. Technical Specs are also available with each pattern and can be requested as a whole packet or per page as needed. Typical Spec pages for this stage would consist of the following; Header-Sketch, Cutters Must, Prototype POM.
PATTERN DIGITIZING – Have a paper pattern already that you would like uploaded into our CAD program? Digital pattern can then be used for future pattern designs, used for accessing to digital files, grading, and speed up your development & production process. Each paper patterns piece dimensions are taken and digitized into our CAD program, saved, and can then be used to start or continue your development process.
SEWING – Upon completion of first pattern it is highly recommended to sew your base size pattern to check fit & aesthetics. Typically garment is sewn in same fabric type, weight, etc to replica production fabric for your graded sizes.
PATTERN REVISIONS – After sewing up your prototype/first pattern and checking how it fits on a body, product, etc. Any additional changes or updates to that pattern to help it fit better or change stylelines is called a pattern revision. Updated Prototype POM spec page is provided with updated measurements if purchased with first pattern.
PATTERN GRADING – Once first pattern is considered “Fit Approved” once sewn up, and meets clients desired aesthetics & fit. Then we are ready to move to pattern grading. Using your exissitng protoype base size pattern, APM will grade your pattern up & down sizes. We can use your grade table/rules, grade from your provided size chart, or use APM’s own grade rules. A list of sizes, whether numerical, alpha, or alphanumerical needs to be email to APM along with a size chart that represents your sizes range. A “Graded POM” spec and/or “POM Size Run” with different sizes of the increase/decrease sizes can be created if clients desires. These specs do not come with graded pattern and need to be puchased along with patterns at and additional cost or can be included in your project estimate.
MARKER – Where the graded pattern is used to cut the fabric. A marker request form is sent to the client, to be filled out for fabric width and other details required to make the marker.
TECHNICAL PACKET – Technical packets consist of various specification pages that informs designers, companies, and/or factories what the pattern pieces are to be cut/sew in specific fabric/colors, where to place trim/findings, how to sew pattern together, what garments should measure in specific locations, and so forth. Each page list different information for the development process. Tech Packets/Specs can be purchased with project or independently as needed.
